In just the next 26 years, as many as 500,000 people living in 32 coastal cities in the US could experience significant flooding.
Researchers are looking at monsoons in the past to help get a better picture of the future of Earth's climate.
Flooding can affect food security for over 5.6 million people in several African nations both immediately and long after the event.
"An increase in the risk of extreme wave events may be catastrophic, as larger and more frequent storms will cause more flooding and coastline erosion."
Greenland is losing ice mass seven times faster than it did in the 1990s. "…we're in the worst-case scenario," says one researcher.
