The service was initially introduced on 14 October 2019, as an on-demand service between four wharves, but was closed as a results of the COVID-19 pandemic.[1][2][3] However it was reintroduced in November 2021 as a timetabled service while the Inner West Light Rail was closed.[4] In December 2022, the service was made permanent.[5]

As of early 2024, the service is still not part of the Opal network, and instead must be paid for on board using credit or debit card.[6]
