The Blue Line is a planned rapid transit line of the Dubai Metro in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It will be the third metro line in the city, after the Red and Green lines,^[1] with a total length of 30 kilometres and 14 stations, connecting the neighbourhoods of Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Al Warqaa, Mirdif, Dubai Creek Harbour, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Academic City, and Dubai International City. The line will have interchanges with existing and future metro lines and with the Etihad Rail network.^[2]

There is a transfer station with the Green Line at Creek station and one with the Red Line at Centrepoint. Additionally, International City is an interchange station between the Creek and Centrepoint branches. The Blue Line has its main depot at Al Ruwayyah 3.^{[citation needed]}

The project was approved by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on November 24, 2023, with a total investment of AED 18 billion. It is expected to be operational by 2029.^[3] The project aims to enhance the public transport system in Dubai and support the economic and social development of the city. The project will also serve the expected increase in the number of visitors and residents in Dubai. The project will be implemented by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with the private sector.^[4]

Construction will start on June 19, 2024 breaking 14 grounds in Al Jadaf, Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, Ras Al Khor Industrial, International City 1, International City 2 & 3, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Al Rashidiya, Mirdif & Al Warqa.^{[citation needed]}

Construction of the Blue Line will start on June 19, 2024 by Hyundai Rotem, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, Nippon and CRRC after the Eid Al Adha holiday.

Creek station: The track layout south of Creek station is modified to create a new extension and 2 additional platforms to serve the new line.

Centrepoint station: The track layout northeast of Centrepoint station is modified to create a new extension and 2 additional platforms to serve the new line.

As a result of increasing popularity of the metro, the new stations feature platforms wider than the ones found in the existing metro stations to cope with the greater ridership. The extension is 30km in length with 14.5km elevated and 15.5km underground. Of the fourteen stations, nine are elevated and five are underground. Additionally, it has a metro depot beyond Academic City in Al Ruwayyah 3, east of Academic City. The route is expected to have 320,000 passengers daily by 2040.

The extension is set to open on 9 September 2029 with service operating Centrepoint, Creek, Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, Ras Al Khor Industrial, International City 1, Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City stations. City Centre Mirdif, Al Warqa, Dragon Mart, Dubai Square and International City 2 & 3 will open on 1 February 2030, allowing the extension to be fully operational.

There are 2 direct routes to Creek and Centrepoint from Academic City which don’t require people to swap trains at International City 1. There will be a Y-junction at International City 1. A Y-junction joins all 3 rails together. Trains traveling from Academic City directly to Centrepoint and Creek will be able to travel direct without hassle of switching trains.^{[citation needed]}

There is no need to change trains at International City 1 station Travel time between Creek and Academic City stations is 25 minutes and 20 seconds. Travel time between Centrepoint and Academic City stations is 17 minutes and 16 seconds.

The line was initially supposed to run between Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport along E311 road, to be completed by 2012, but due to the financial crisis, it was put on hold. After the 2023 redesign, the line will be 30 kilometres long, with 15.5 kilometres underground with 5 stations, while the rest will be above-ground with 9 stations.^[5]

Operation Phase II: Centrepoint, City Centre Mirdif, Al Warqa, Dragon Mart, Creek, Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, Dubai Square, Ras Al Khor Industrial, Auto Market, International City 1, International City 2 & 3, Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City.

Seven stations will be elevated, including one iconic station. Five stations will be underground, including one interchange station; and two elevated transfer stations connected to the existing Centrepoint station, the eastern terminus of Red Line in Rashidiya; and Creek station, the southern terminus of Green Line in Al Jaddaf.^[6] The Blue Line is linked to fourteen stations: three transfer stations, one iconic station, six elevated stations, and four underground stations.

The size of an elevated station ranges between 8,100 and 8,800 m², while Dubai Square station covers an area of 8,800 m². Moreover, the size of an underground station ranges between 27,000 to 44,000 m2.^{[citation needed]}

Dubai Metro Blue Line Station Details

The Blue Line features fourteen Gold LEED certified stations that include four underground, six elevated, two elevated interchange, one underground interchange and one iconic. The Blue Metro Line plan also includes two interchange stations on both Red & Green Lines, Centrepoint and Creek. The iconic station will be built at the Dubai Square Mall.

Dubai Metro Blue Line extends around 30km, divided into two sections: 14.5km elevated track and 15.5km underground. The depth of the 15.5km tunnel ranges between 36m and 70m. Located between International City 2 and Ras Al Khor Industrial 3 including Al Rashidiya. The plan of the Blue Line also includes the construction of the metro depot at Al Ruwayyah 3 beyond Academic City.

First Branch

The first branch of the Blue Line starts at Creek Interchange Station on the Green Line at Al Jadaf.

Creek

The station is 360 meters in length and 15,420 square meters in area. The station is themed as “Earth”, the station has to look the same to be like how the existing Creek station looks right now. The station has 4 platforms (2 in Green Line and 2 on Blue Line which is an island platform), 4 bus laybys, 17 taxi drop offs, 7 parking spots, a multi level parking (G-7) connected to the metro station via Exit 2 and 8 retail units along the bridge connecting the existing Creek station platform (Green Line) to the new island platform (Blue Line). When the station opens on September 9, 2029, Platform 2 of the station will be operational and trains will be able to switch tracks beyond the station.

Then, the metro crosses Dubai Creek through a 1,300-meter bridge going to its next stop, Dubai Festival City.

Dubai Festival City

The station is 180 meters in length and 11,400 square meters in area. The station is themed as “Air” featuring a green-aqua-cyan spiral design on the floor to represent the logo of Dubai Festival City. The station has 2 platforms, 4 bus lay-bys, 20 taxi drop offs, 2 taxi drop offs and 5 retail units.

Next, the line enters the famous Dubai Creek Harbour district.

Dubai Creek Harbour

The station is 180 meters in length and 10,800 square meters in area. The station is themed as “Fire” featuring an artistic red, orange and yellow zig-zag lines design on the floor to represent how iconic the Creek Harbour is. The station has 2 platforms, 4 bus lay-bys, 20 taxi drop offs, 2 parking spots and 4 retail units.

After that, the metro reaches 990 meters south to a famous and iconic destination, Dubai Square.

Dubai Square

The station is 180 meters in length and 11,500 square meters in area. The station has a unique design by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) making it an iconic station. The station will have an artistic design inside to represent the interior of Dubai Square Mall next to Dubai Creek Tower. The station has 3 platforms, 6 bus laybys, 20 taxi drop offs, 4 parking spots and 9 retail units. The station will have 8 ticket vending machines and an artistic bridge linking to the Dubai Square Mall.

After that, the metro crosses through Ras Al Khor Road (E 44) to its destination, Ras Al Khor Industrial.

Ras Al Khor Industrial

The station is 180 meters in area and 10,400 square meters in area. The station is themed “Earth”, featuring a yellow-brown industrial design on the floor. The station has 2 platforms, 4 bus laybys, 20 taxi drop offs, 2 parking spots and 4 retail units.

Then, the same thing, they will reshape warehouses and make new roads on its way to pass through Nadd Al Hamar Street (D 62) to the next stop, Auto Market.

Auto Market

The station is 180 meters in area and 10,900 square meters in area. The station is themed “Air”, featuring an aqua-cyan industrial design on the floor. The station has 2 platforms, 4 bus laybys, 20 taxi drop offs, 2 parking spots and 5 retail units.

Suddenly, the metro line goes underground passing under Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E 311) leading to International City 1 interchange station.

International City 1

The station is 237 meters in length and 35,700 square meters in area making it the largest underground interchange station of Dubai Metro. The station is themed as “Fire” featuring multiple small lines (red, orange and yellow) on the floor, featuring 4 platforms, 4 bus lay-bys, 20 taxi drop offs, 400 parking spaces on the sides of the exits and 14 retail units. The station has 4 ticket vending machines in each exit.

After that, the metro crosses under Warsan Lake and Manama Street (D 77), heading to International City 2/3.

International City 2 & 3

The station is 251 meters in length and 23,800 square meters in area. The station is themed as "Water" featuring small lines on the floor (cyan, blue and purple), 2 platforms, 4 bus lay-bys, 20 taxi drop offs and 2 parking spots. It also has 8 retail units.

Suddenly, the metro line gets back to elevated track going into Dubai Silicon Oasis.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

The station is 180 meters in length and 10,400 square meters in area. The station is themed as “Earth” featuring multiple yellow and brown lines on the floor to represent the logo. It has 2 platforms, 4 bus lay-bys, 20 taxi drop offs and 2 parking spots. Including 4 retail units. The train connection transfers to Silcon Central Mall at Dubai Silicon Oasis Metro Station.

Suddenly, the metro line leaves the district crossing over Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street (D 54) heading to its final destination, Academic City.

Academic City

The station is 180 meters in length and 10,400 square meters in area. The station is themed as “Air” featuring green circles on the floor to represent the logo. The station has 2 platforms, 4 bus lay-bys, 20 taxi drop offs, 2 parking spots and 5 retail units. This is the last metro station where the Blue Line of Dubai Metro terminates to Academic City Metro Depot, This people must be leaving the train at the station just to be staying all the belongings without leaving the metro.

Then the first branch concludes at the Al Ruwayyah 3 metro depot.

Second Branch

The first branch of the Blue Line starts at the Centrepoint Interchange Station on the Red Line at Al Rashidiya.

Centrepoint

The station is 234 meters in length and 7,500 square meters in area. The station is themed as “Air” featuring the same design as the existing centrepoint station on the Red Line. The station has 5 platforms, 4 bus lay-bys, 17 taxi drop offs, a multi-level parking connected to the station and 8 retail units along the bridge connecting the existing platforms (Red Line) to the new platforms (Blue Line).

Then, the metro line crosses over Al Rashidiya Park then going underground to its next stop, City Centre Mirdif.

City Centre Mirdif

The station is 237 meters in length and 12,400 square meters in area. The station theme is “Fire” featuring the design of the mall logo in red-orange color. The station has 2 platforms, 4 bus lay-bys, 20 taxi drop offs, 2 parking spots and 8 retail units.

After that, the metro passes under Ghoroob Community, Tripoli Street (D 83), Villas of Al Warqa 2, LuLu Al Warqa, Al Warqa 2 Park going under Al Warqa Street (D 81) going to it’s next stop: Al Warqa.

Al Warqa

The station is 237 meters in length and 13,800 square meters in area. The station theme is “Water” featuring groups of 3 circles (cyan and blue). It has 2 platforms, 4 bus lay-bys, 20 taxi drop offs and 2 parking spots including 8 retail units.

Suddenly, the metro passes under villas of Al Warqa 3 crossing Al Awir Road (E 44) going to the next station: Dragon Mart.

Dragon Mart

The station is 237 meters in length and 12,900 square meters in area. The station theme is “Earth” featuring an artistic dragon design to represent the logo of the mall. The station has 2 platforms, 4 bus lay-bys, 20 taxi drop offs, 2 parking spots and 8 retail units.

Finally, the underground track connects the International City 1 interchange station, then it connects with the first blue line branch beyond the station.
