Canadian freestyle skier (born 1982)
Deidra Dionne (born February 5, 1982) is a Canadian freestyle skier. She was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan.[1][2] She won bronze in the 2002 Winter Olympics in freestyle aerial ski[3] She also won the bronze medal at the 2001 and 2003 FIS World Freestyle Ski Championships.[1]
Her health and career appeared in jeopardy on September 1, 2005; when she had a training accident that injured her neck.[4] She came close to being paralyzed.[5] She had to have surgery where two vertebrae in her neck were fused with a titanium plate.[2] A bone graft needed to be taken from her right hip.[2] Eventually she recoverred, and was able to participate in the 2006 Winter Olympics. At the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, Dionne won a bronze medal in women's aerial ski jumping.
