Summary

Description

The Basílica Menor de San Lorenzo (St. Lawrence Basilica) was founded in 1605. The church was rebuilt in 1770 and then replaced by the current structure starting in 1845.

Santa Cruz de la Sierra (elev. 416m/1,365ft) became the most populous city in Bolivia at the start of the 21st century, overtaking La Paz. (La Paz remains the most populous metropolitan area, however.) Santa Cruz is the most economically prosperous city in the country.
