Summary
Description Alpha Jets - Asas de Portugal (26222044752).jpg |
Leeuwarden, 17 June 2006. Asas de Portugal (Wings of Portugal) was created in 1977 to represent the Portuguese Air Force at the IAT at Greenham Common. The team operated the Cessna T-37C for 13 years. In December 1990 one of the team’s Tweeties crashed due to cracks in the wing. Inspection revealed that almost all T-37s suffered from fatigue, which led to the phase-out of all the airplanes. In 1997 and 2001 the team was reactivated for a only short period with Alpha Jets. The Asas de Portugal were reactivated a third time in 2005, and deactivated again in 2010. Source: Wikipedia All 50 Portuguese Alpha Jets are former Luftwaffe. Around 10 are still in service. |
