Description
English: Apolo 11 flight, artist concept. Friction of the atmosphere heats the shield to a white hot temperature, which slows the craft as it reached lower altitudes. At about three miles altitude, drogue parachutes opens to stabilize the craft. Moments later the main parachutes opens to lower the CM to the waters of the Pacific Ocean
