Port Arthur, Texas
in 1964 and served as a seismic research vessel named
Campeche Seal
. It went into service named
Aquanaut Explorer
as a live-aboard dive ship in the Virgin Islands in 1986. Subsequently, it was named
The Explorer
in 1993, and most recently named as
Atoll Explorer
, when it began service as a passenger cruise ship in the
Maldives
. The ship's gross tonnage is 297 tons, and it is 50 metres (165 feet) long. It can accommodate 40 passengers in 20 cabins.
