The last in the male line was Hugh Campbell, 1st Baron Loudoun (d.1622), whose son and heir apparent George Campbell, Master of Loudoun, predeceased him, having left a daughter Margaret Campbell, 2nd Baroness Loudoun, who succeeded her grandfather, and married John Campbell (1598-1662), of Lawers, Perthshire (the eldest son of Sir James Campbell of Lawers) who in 1633 was created
Earl of Loudoun
