Arms of Campbell of Loudoun, Ayrshire, hereditary sheriffs of Ayrshire: Gyronny of eight ermine and gules (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.164). The last in the male line was Hugh Campbell, 1st Baron Loudoun (d.1622), whose son and heir apparent George Campbell, Master of Loudoun, predeceased him, having left a daughter Margaret Campbell, 2nd Baroness Loudoun, who succeeded her grandfather, and married John Campbell (1598-1662), of Lawers, Perthshire (the eldest son of Sir James Campbell of Lawers) who in 1633 was created Earl of Loudoun .
