dipole antennas
suspended in front of a vertical reflector made of a "curtain" of parallel wires. They radiate a powerful beam of radio waves into the sky at a shallow angle just above the horizon, toward the target country. The radio waves are reflected back to Earth over the horizon by a layer of charged particles in the
ionosphere
.
