(Borders cropped)
A fourteenth-century miniature Greek manuscript depicting scenes from the life of Alexander the Great.
Alexander reinforced his outposts with many thousands of men, armed with golden cuirasses, commanded the most reliable to remain and guard and proclaimed Seleucus as the head of the army. Alexander here is depicted on the throne, in the centre of the illustration, giving the command to Seleucus who is shown wearing a turban. To the left and right of the throne numerous soldiers are depicted wearing the bracca (βράκκα) trousers and armor.
The entire scene is depicted entirely in Byzantine fashion of the late Byzantine period (1204-1453). “Alexander Romance” in S. Giorgio dei Greci in Venice.’’
