Om de hals draagt de man diverse amuletten, bestaande uit leren envelopjes, meestal gevuld met spreuken uit de Koran op stukjes papier die de drager bescherming moeten bieden tegen allerlei onheil. Een zelfde type amuletkettingen wordt gedragen door een Tuareg man op foto 20010116.
