Español: Retrato del infante de España Carlos María Isidro de Borbón (1788-1855), que fue hijo del rey Carlos IV de España y hermano de Fernando VII . Y a la muerte de este ultimo, disputó el trono de España a su sobrina, Isabel II , en el enfrentamiento conocido como la Primera Guerra Carlista , que finalizó en 1839 con el Abrazo de Vergara .

Carlos was brother of en:Ferdinand VII of Spain , and his next in line in the Spanish en:Salic law of succession due to there being no direct male heir. However, when Ferdinand issued the en:Pragmatic Sanction of 1830 , the succession then passed on to his daughter en:Isabella II of Spain as his first child (regardless of gender). This led to the en:Carlist Wars upon Ferdinand's death, a series of immensely bloody civil wars in Spain during the 19th century.
