Summary
Description Entrance Hall, Stormont Parliament - geograph.org.uk - 871593.jpg |
English:
Entrance Hall, Stormont Parliament Photography by the general public is only permitted only in the main hallway which is richly decorated with marble floors and walls, the latter displaying impressive carvings, which were the result of Italian craftsmen spending several years on the job. Most of these chaps, if not English speaking before they arrived in Northern Ireland, were fluent in the language with Belfast accents before they left the province, and possibly made off with some of the local lasses. Also of note are the chandeliers hung from the ceiling and the bronze statue of Lord Craig, the first prime minister of Northern Ireland, at the top of the marble stairway. The statue is life-size and seems large, but he was a large man, being six and a half feet tall.
