magazine, and depicting the relationship between Romania's Conservative Party and King Carol I of Romania as one between students and their teacher. Carol, who has the prerogative of naming the Prime Minister, asks Conservative leader Petre P. Carp (standing) about "the shortest way for one to reach power"; Carp answers, "by way of the Palace". The backbenches accommodate figures of the breakaway Conservative-Democratic Party, laughing off Carp's ambitions. They are, from left: Take Ionescu, Alexandru Bădărău, Nicolae Fleva. Sitting next to Carp, and turned over to shush the Conservative-Democratic naysayers, is Carp's favorite Alexandru Marghiloman.
