Summary

Description

Nancy Pau, USFWS Biologist at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in MA, measuring the length of a saltmarsh sparrow's leg using calipers. The bird's leg appears to be 20 mm long. By taking measurements such as leg length, wing length, and mass, biologists can get a score of how healthy a bird is. All bird handling should be conducted by trained researchers with proper permitting.
