Summary

Description
English: Old Abbey Mills Pumping Station, Stratford. This photo was taken from The Greenway, a path that runs along the top of the Northern Outfall Sewer. It is a grade 2 listed building, and is no longer used for its original purpose, having been replaced by a new facility next door. It still houses reserve pumps for the new facility. The job of the pumping station is to move sewage from one level to another, higher one. It is a very important job -- you wouldn't have any practical alternatives.
