Notes
- ↑ The Smithsonian files this under 1920s-1970s, but Underwood & Underwood went out of business in the 1940s. Industrial Standardization and Commercial Standards Monthly , Volume 13, page 36, "Two New Members are Elected to ASA Board of Directors" includes a photograph by Underwood & Underwood that appears to be from the same photographic session - same hair, looks like the same outfit, slightly different angle. That's from February 1942. The Standard-Speaker of Hazelton, Pennsylvania published that same similar image on page 5 of their 6 February 1941 edition . That sets an end date for the photograph, and we can reasonably assume that they wouldn't print something decades old, so that gives us an approximate date.
