. The church was erected between 1886 and 1905 on the site of the previous chapel-of-ease,

(which had been destroyed by arson in 1884). The chapel-of-ease, with its neighbouring Bishop's Lodge, was built for the use of the
Bishop of Newfoundland and Bermuda
, whose usual seat was the
Cathedral of St. John the Baptist
) at

Newfoundland
). In Bermuda, another
St. John's Church
is the parish church for Pembroke Parish. Completed in 1905, the new chapel-of-ease became the
Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity
when the
Bishop of Bermuda
was established as separate office from the
Bishop of Newfoundland
in 1919.
