Description Three yuujo on veranda by Adolfo Farsari 1885.jpg |
Three Yuujo (courtesans) posing on an engawa [veranda] . Hand-coloured albumen silver print by Adolfo Farsari , c.1885. These are not maiko. Maiko would not be obi-less. This image was taken at a well known brothel in Yokohama, the Nectarine No. 9. I've seen this photo as a postcard offered on Ebay several times. They are presumably "Rasyamen," prostitutes for foreigners. |
