Foto. In de tweede helft van de zeventiende eeuw werd op het punt waar de Commewijne en de Cotticarivier samenkomen een fort gebouwd. Met het gereedkomen van fort Nieuw-Amsterdam werd Fort Sommelsdijck opgeheven.
