Description
English: Part of " The Milkmaid " by Johannes Vermeer , painted 1657 or 1658, from close to the lower left-hand corner of the painting, showing the patch of floor where the clothes basket was painted over, the distinctive, brilliant blue of the maid's dress and the foot warmer, a much-discussed symbol in the painting, as well as the Delft tiles showing Cupid (to the left of the foot warmer) and a man with a pole or similar object (to the right of the foot warmer). The tiles have also been considered symbolic by some critics. This picture has been cropped from the online source version
