В 1921-1924 гг. по советскому заказу в Германии и Швеции было построено 1200 паровозов серии Э, получивших соответственно обозначения Эг (700 шт.) и Э ш (500 шт.). Паровоз Э ш 4444 построен заводом Нюдквист и Гольм в 1924 г. В годы войны входил в состав колонны паровозов особого резерва и эксплуатировался на прифронтовых линиях. Поступил в музей с испытательного кольца ВНИИЖТ на ст. Щербинка в 1997 г.

1200 Class E locomotives were built for the Soviet railways in Germany and Sweden during 1921-24, and were designated EG (700 locomotives) and ESH (500 locomotives). ESH-4444 was built by Nydquist and Holm in 1924. During the war it was part of the special locomotive reserve, and was used on lines near the battle front.

This locomotive came to the museum from the VNIIZhT test circle at Shcherbinka in 1997.
