Etymology

The name itself is a patronym of the given name John, literally meaning "son of John". The name John derives from Latin Johannes, which is derived through Greek Ἰωάννης Iōannēs from Hebrew יוחנן‎ Yohanan, meaning "Yahweh has favoured".[1]
