List of European countries by minimum wage

The following list provides information relating to the minimum wages (gross) of countries in Europe.[1][2]

The calculations are based on the assumption of a 40-hour working week and a 52-week year, with the exceptions of France (35 hours),[3] San Marino (37.5 hours),[4] Belgium (38 hours),[5] United Kingdom (38.1 hours),[3] Ireland (39 hours),[3] Monaco (39 hours),[6] and Germany (39.1 hours).[3] Most of minimum wages are fixed at a monthly rate, but there are countries where minimum wage is fixed at an hourly rate or weekly rate.

Minimum wages by country

Net income

The maps below show monthly adult minimum (after tax, social charges & deductions) income; some countries have a lower rate for under-25-year-olds.

Purpleabove €1,000
Light blue€500 to €1,000
Yellow€250 to €499
Redbelow €250

Countries marked on the map in dark red do not have a minimum wage.

Gross income

The maps below show monthly (before tax, social charges & deductions) minimum adult income; some countries have a lower rate for under-25-year-olds.

Purpleabove €1,500
Light blue€700 to €1,500
Yellow€400 to €699
Redbelow €400

Countries marked on the map in dark red do not have a minimum wage.

The difference between the gross income and the net income ratio is given by the percentage of income taxes. For example, even if a Slovak citizen has a gross minimum income higher than a Czech, in reality the first will receive less money than the second because of higher income taxes, social charges & deductions that are applied even to minimum income earners without any tax free allowances for working poor (no initial tax free amount exemption).
