List of Schedule III controlled substances (U.S.)

A list of substances under control by the Controlled Substances Act of 1970


This is the list of Schedule III controlled substances as defined by the United States Controlled Substances Act at 21 U.S.C. § 812(c) and 21 CFR 1308.13. The following findings are required for substances to be placed in this schedule:[1]

  1. The drug or other substance has a potential for abuse less than the drugs or other substances in schedules I and II.
  2. The drug or other substance has a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
  3. Abuse of the drug or other substance may lead to moderate or low physical dependence or high psychological dependence.

  1. This substance was expressly scheduled by the Controlled Substances Act on October 27, 1970. The 1974 Federal Register ruling (by Administrator John R. Bartels, Jr.) merely organized its listing in the Code of Federal Regulations.
