This article lists all the urban local bodies, including municipal corporations, municipalities and nagar panchayats in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The statistical data is based on the Directorate of Town and Country Planning, Government of Andhra Pradesh. The state of Andhra Pradesh, with 26 districts, has a total of 125 urban local bodies. It includes 17 municipal corporations, 79 municipalities, and 30 nagar panchayats.[1][2][3]

  • According to available data, Bheemunipatnam is the oldest municipality in Andhra Pradesh and the second oldest municipality in India after Chennapatnam [Chennai]. Currently, Bheemunipatnam is a part of GVMC and Adoni in the Kurnool district and is the oldest municipality in Rayalaseema region, followed by Kurnool.

Municipal corporations

Municipal Corporations in Andhra Pradesh

The state of Andhra Pradesh has a total of 17 municipal corporations in 26 districts. The Guntur district has the most corporations, with two in total, whereas all other districts have one each. GVMC is the largest municipal corporation with greater status.[4] 16 corporations out of 17 are district headquarters, the one corporation that is not is Mangalagiri-Tadepalli.[5]

Note:

In March 2021 former municipalities of the Guntur district, Mangalagiri Municipality and Tadepalli Municipality, were merged to form Mangalagiri Tadepalli Municipal Corporation.

Municipalities

Municipalities in the state of Andhra Pradesh are categorised into four types. They are in the following hierarchy

  1. Selection Grade Municipality- 14
  2. Grade 1 Municipality- 15
  3. Grade 2 Municipality- 32
  4. Grade 3 Municipality- 18

Guntur district has the most municipalities with 12.[7][4]

Nagar panchayats

The state of Andhra Pradesh has a total of 29 nagar panchayats.

Prakasam district has the most nagar panchayats of four.
