Marivan (Persian: مريوان and Kurdish: مەریوان (listen)), also known as Mariwan and Qale Marīvān—"Fort Marivan"; formerly, Dezhe Shahpur (Persian: دِژ شاپور); also Romanized as Dezhe Shāhpūr and Dezhe Shapoor,[3] is a city in the Central District of Marivan County, Kurdistan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district.[4] The people of Marivan speak Kurdish.[5]

At the 2006 National Census, its population was 91,664 in 22,440 households.[6] The following census in 2011 counted 110,464 people in 29,743 households.[7] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 136,654 people in 39,368 households.[2]
