The municipality has a population of 7,513 (31 December 2023)[2] and covers an area of 536.08 square kilometres (206.98 sq mi) of which 16.37 km2 (6.32 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 14.45 inhabitants per square kilometre (37.4/sq mi). The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
The municipality of Karjala was consolidated with Mynämäki in 1977. The municipality of Mietoinen was consolidated with Mynämäki in 2007.
