North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region


The North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region is one of two autonomous regions in Nicaragua. It covers an area of 33,105.98 km² and has a population of 530,586 (2020 estimate).[1] It is the largest autonomous region in Nicaragua. The capital is Bilwi. It contains part of the region known as the Mosquito Coast.

The North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region has a Regional Council of representatives that hold sessions at the governmental house in Bilwi.

The North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region, in addition to Mestizos, contains populations from different indigenous groups, including the Miskitos, Mayangnas, Rama,Garifuna and Creoles.
