Urban-type settlement in Minsk Region, Belarus
Smilavichy[lower-alpha 1] (Belarusian: Смілавічы, romanized: Smilavičy;[lower-alpha 2] Russian: Смиловичи, romanized: Smilovichi; Polish: Śmiłowicze; Yiddish: סמילאָוויץ, romanized: Smilovitz) is an urban-type settlement in Chervyen District, Minsk Region, Belarus.[2][3] As of 2023, it has a population of 6,325.[1]
In Jewish tradition it is known as Smilovitz, and was a shtetl in the Russian Empire.
The village is the birthplace of the renowned painter Chaïm Soutine.
