Star Suvarna is an Indian Kannada language general entertainment pay television channel operated by Disney Star, a subsidiary of Disney India. It primarily telecast programmes such as serials, reality shows & Kannada films.

History

It was launched on 17 June 2007 by Jupiter Entertainment Venture (JEV) as Asianet Suvarna owned by Asianet Communications Limited.[1]

Star Suvarna is also the first channel in India to give importance to Tulu language programming during the year 2010 despite the channel being known for Kannada language programming.[2]

In 2013, Star India acquired Asianet Communications excluding the news channels from their parent company.[3] On 25 July 2016, the channel was rebranded as Star Suvarna along with its sister channel Star Suvarna Plus.[4][5] Star Suvarna Plus was launched on 14 August 2013.[6]

Star Survana launched its own high-definition simulcast on 15 July 2017. It offers HD visuals and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 sound quality.[7][8]

Star Suvarna Plus

Star Suvarna Plus is an Indian Kannada language Movie channel, operated by Disney Star a subsidiary of Disney India It was launched on 14 August 2013 as Asianet Suvarna Plus. When it was acquired by Disney Star, the channel was rebranded as Star Suvarna Plus on 25 July 2016 along with its sister channel Star Suvarna.
