Sudigundalu (transl.Whirlpools) is a 1968 Indian Telugu-language philosophical film, produced by Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Adurthi Subba Rao under the Chakravarthy Chitra banner and directed by Adurthi Subba Rao. It stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao, and has music composed by K. V. Mahadevan. It was released on 28 June 1968.[1] The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu,[2] The Nandi Award for Best Feature Film, and the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Telugu.[3][4] It marked the debut of Nageswara Rao's son Nagarjuna as child artist in a cameo.[5][6] The cult classic film was screened at the Tashkent Film Festival, and the International Film Festival of India.[7]

Plot

Justice Chandra Shekaram is a very kind and noble person who shelters the families of the criminals he has convicted. They all live like a family and rear Chandra Shekaram's only son, Raja, who is motherless, with love and affection. One day, Raja goes missing, and everyone becomes panicked; the next day, unexpectedly, he is found dead.

Police make a serious investigation and find out that two youths, Vikram Kumar and Sandhya Rani, children of influential figures in hogh society, slaughtered Raja for fun. Here, Mr. Moneybags tries their level best to acquire their freedom using money and power but fails. At this point, Chandra Shekaram takes on the role of defense attorney for the young culprits to bring out the real motive of the murder, which shocks the entire court.

Now Chandra Shekaram proves that these children become spoiled brats due to lack and improper parental care. His argument unites with cultural deviations that our country will face in the future. Ultimately, he affirms that parents should play a key role in raising their children as responsible citizens. Ultimately, the court changes its judgment when Chandra Shekharam breathes his last in the court hall.

Background

Adurthi Subba Rao, who has directed many commercially successful films, made this film with the intention of making artistic and informative films. He also shared the production duties of the film with actor Nageswara Rao.

The 1959 American movie Compulsion (1959 film) is the inspiration for the script of the movie. American convicted criminals, Leopold and Loeb and their trial form the plot of the film Compulsion.
