Rather than merge here, may I present an alternative, since the standings tables do not define the abbreviations? For knockout and the finals, then the FIFA 2006 template would suffice, as there would not be a standings table.—Twigboy 15:56, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Shouldn't this template be more appropriately named {{2006 FIFA World Cup}}? This is in line with naming convention for all other WC pages -- and FIFA should not be taken as an alias to the World Cup as they are two entirely different objects. The existing {{2006 FIFA World Cup}} should probably be better renamed to {{2006 FIFA World Cup finalists}}. --Pkchan 16:26, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Template:FIFA 2006 → Template:2006 FIFA World Cup Rationale: In line with naming convention of other World Cup articles and templates. New name is more descriptive, as FIFA as the organiser of the World Cup should never been seen as alias to the event itself. Template:2006 FIFA World Cup already exists (as a redirect to another template), so admin's help is required here.
