I am of the opinion that there could be a better name than Yorktown Campaign. I don't think anybody involved, especially during the early battles such as in Petersburg (Blandford), could have predicted that things would end up in Yorktown. Come to think of it, depending on whose point of view -say British- the campaign began with Arnold's invasion of Virginia at the beginning of the year. It wasn't until after Blandford that Cornwallis took Arnold's men and decided to hole up in Yorktown and wait for the navy. When Washington and Rochambeau set out from Connecticut they may have planned to be in Virginia but not Yorktown. I humbly submit that this campaign should be called the Virginia Campaign. In my reading this evening was reminded that in August Washington and Rochambeau set their armies marching with a plan to trap Cornwallis in Yorktown. I still think that a name like Virginia Campaign informs all the action that happened there from January 1781 to October of that year. Your thoughts? Burntdog (talk) 05:11, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
