Suggestions

I can see a decent amount of effort has gone into creating this template. However, may I suggest the list of philosophers be sub-categorised somehow; e.g. by period, school, origin or somesuch. It will turn a large list into something easier for the reader to browse. ClaretAsh 10:24, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice. I've tried to organised them according to religious beliefs where possible (I initially tried doing it by school, but there is too much overlap for it to work). It still needs some work - the Christian section could be split further and the other section needs addressing. Currently, other contains a mixture of people who I didn't know where to place and people who did not fit into the other categories. Some just need to be moved to the right place; the rest need to be better categorised - perhaps an other theists, other atheists, etc. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 20:31, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Intelligent design

Intelligent design is not mentioned once in the main Philosophy of religion article, so I would question whether it merits inclusion as one of its core 'Concepts'. Additionally, when the concept is framed as a philosophical 'argument for the existence of God' it is known as the Teleological argument (already listed in this template), so listing ID (which is the concept when framed as a pseudoscientific or political claim) would appear duplicative. Criteria for inclusion in "Philosophers of religion" group?

I would think that a policy like WP:LISTCRITERIA should probably apply to lists within navboxes as well. Are there criteria for being listed in the "Philosophers of religion" section other than being notable, and verifiably being a philosopher of religion who's Atheist/Buddhist/Christian/etc.? If not, isn't there a size concern? The philosophers section is already really tall (more than a screen length on my monitor), and I suspect it's far from including every notable philosopher of religion. e.g. there are currently only 7 names listed under "Jewish", but Category:Philosophers of Judaism contains 126 pages. Template:General physics, which is given as an example in WP:NAVBOX, has a 'Scientists' section with just 13 pioneering physicists who have made major contributions to the field of physics. This seems like a promising approach to take for this template - i.e. select a few philosophers who are not merely notable, but who are iconically identifiable with the philosophy of religion, and have made major contributions to the field.
