May I ask what 'meads' means?Deonyi (talk) 12:02, 3 April 2019 (UTC)

Presumably refers to riverside meadows. I suppose the author wanted to distinguish between parishes where the town or village is on the banks of the river, and those where the river runs through meadows and the settlement is further away. --Wire723 (talk) 13:40, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
