Waikato District Council (Māori: Te Kaunihera ā-Rohe o Waikato) is the territorial authority for the Waikato District of New Zealand.[1]

The current Waikato District Council logo has been in use since 2003. Since 2014 the Māori translation, Te Kaunihera aa Takiwaa o Waikato' is sometimes added below it. WDC uses double vowels rather than macrons in its translations

The council is led by the mayor of Waikato, who is currently Jacqui Church. There are also ward councillors.[1]

History

The council was established in 1989, replacing Raglan County Council (established in 1876), Waikato County Council (established in 1876), Ngāruawāhia Borough Council (established in 1920), and Huntly Borough Council (established in 1931).[3][4]
