History

The club was founded as Rylands F.C. in 1906 as a works team from a manufacturer of wire.[2] The club started playing in the Liverpool County Football Combination league and then joining the Warrington & District Football League.[3] The club had to wait until 1928 before winning their first Silverware, the Depot Cup.[4] The 1950s saw the club became champions of the Warrington & District Football League Premier Division 6 times in a row, commencing from the 1953–54 season.[5]

The 1968–69 season saw the club join the Mid-Cheshire League.[6] The 1980–81 season saw the club finish as champions of the league, as well as make their debut in the FA Vase.[6] The club collected another league championship trophy in the 1983–84 season.[6] In 2008 the club merged with fellow Mid Cheshire league side Crossfields F.C. becoming Crossfields/Rylands F.C.[7] After two seasons, the club reverted to Rylands F.C.[7]

On 15 July 2016, Wayne Rooney's agent Paul Stretford stated he is aiming to get Rylands to the Football League after investing £100,000 on ground improvements.[8] On 2 April 2018 the club published a letter from Paul Stretford which confirmed his proposed takeover will proceed, subject to due diligence.[9] The 2018–19 season saw the club move to Division one south of the North West Counties Football League, and winning it at the first attempt, so gaining promotion to the Premier Division.[10] In the 2019–20 season the club took part in their first-ever FA Cup qualifying campaign.[11]

The club announced a name change in August 2020 to Warrington Rylands 1906 FC to reflect their locality.[12]

In April the club 2024 appointed convicted rapist[13] Samuel Wilson on a 2 year contract; 3 days later the club announced it had terminated Wilson's contract "by mutual consent".[14] Wilson was a player at the club since 2021 and was appointed interim manager in February 2024.[15]

Ground

The club play their home games at Gorsey Lane.[16] Floodlights were added to the ground at the start of 2019.[17]
