Wikipedia:Proposed article splits

This is the page to make requests for the splitting of an article into two or more separate articles.

This process is usually undertaken to keep articles from becoming too large or unfocused; but may also occur when an element of an existing article gains substantial notoriety in its own right. In such a case, requests for splitting-off said content from an existing article into a newer, stand-alone article, should be directed here. After familiarizing yourself with the splitting process, please make your requests for article splitting below.

All split comments and discussions should be directed to the "discussion" subsection of the Original Article's Talk Page, NOT here.

Note

Splits of CATEGORIES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
Splits of TEMPLATES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Templates for discussion.
MERGING of ARTICLES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Proposed article mergers.

Split requests

If you need assistance with proposing a split, list it below and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the split completed, as there may be a backlog, and splits often require considerably more discussion than, for instance, a merge request. To request a split, list the article below as well as requested target article title(s). Include a short descriptive reason why you think a split is in order. Please sign your request(s). Thank you.

Making a request

If you need assistance with proposing a split, list it below in "NEW REQUESTS" and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the split completed on its own. After a split is listed properly, move it to the "Answered requests" or "Awaiting consensus" sections below as appropriate. Please list new requests at the bottom of the section. Use the edit summary and list at least a link to the original article. Please legitimize your request by signing each listing or comment by typing four tildes (~~~~). Unsigned requests can not be honored.

To request your split, copy the following template, paste it at the bottom of the NEW REQUESTS section, and fill in (replace) the article titles specific to your request, and give the reason why you think the page should be split. (NOTE: Often the original article name and one of the preferred new names are the same. However, at least one of the preferred new name(s) should appear red.) Indicate if your request will involve Page Moves, creating Disambiguation Page(s), or any other related work. Also, please indicate if you are willing to do the split if such a consensus is reached.

Template
*Split Original article name into Split-article preferred new name 1 and Split-article preferred new name 2. GIVE YOUR REASON FOR THE SPLIT HERE. If agreed, I {will} OR {cannot} do the split. ~~~~

 • Split On Tat Estate and On Tai Estate into On Tat Estate and On Tai Estate. The reason is On Tat Estate, which is located at 3 On Chui Street and was completed in 2016, comprises 11 blocks with a total of 9,356 flats while On Tai Estate, which is located at 20 On Sau Road and was completed in 2017 and 2018, comprises 11 blocks with 8,561 units. ZohoOneFan88 (talk) 13:41, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
 • Split Apple Watch into Apple Watch and Apple Watch Ultra. With the announcement of the Apple Watch Ultra 2, it is clear that Apple sees the device as a seperate product line similar to the iPhone Pro series. The Ultra line of watches have a specific target market (hiking, trailing, & diving) and have enough distinct hardware and software features that set them apart from standard Apple Watch models even further than typical generational upgrades. TechnicalNewt (talk) 04:21, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
 • (DISCUSS) SPLIT Mullins River into two articles covering the two different topics that this article has melded together; Mullins River (river) and Mullins River (village) -- 67.70.25.175 (talk) 11:23, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
 • Split Shoulder Arthritis into Glenohumeral arthritis and Acromioclavicular arthritis. The shoulder comprises the sternoclavicular, acromioclavicular, glenohumeral, and scapulothoracic articulations. Each of these articulations should be considered separately as they have unique symptoms, epidemiology, and management. This split would involve the creation of separate acromioclavicular and glenohumeral osteoarthritis pages and the subsequent deletion of the Shoulder Arthritis page. If agreed, I {will} do the split. JThompson.Utexas (talk) 12:57, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
 • (DISCUSS) Split Max Verstappen into Max Verstappen and List of Formula One Grand Prix wins by Max Verstappen. As the driver with the 5th most wins of all time, above Ayrton Senna, well on the way to becoming an all-time great, I feel its only right that he gets a win list article of his own. There's already a detailed draft at Draft:List of Formula One Grand Prix wins by Max Verstappen. I understand that the creation of this article has been requested and denied multiple times in the past, but a lot has changed. A third consecutive championship is almost certain following a record-breaking 10-race win-streak, and he is rapidly approaching 50 wins. If agreed, I cannot do the split. MaxLikesStuff (talk) 09:29, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
 • Split Xbox Game Studios into Microsoft Gaming. Xbox Game Studios, ZeniMax Media, Activision, Blizzard Entertainment, and King all report to the Microsoft Gaming division that covers the company's ventures in video game development, publishing, and distribution. If agreed, I will do the split. One-Winged Devil (talk) 17:50, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
 • Split Arena Football League into Arena Football League and Arena Football League (2024). The proposed 2024 relaunch of the Arena Football League has completely different leadership and management from the previous two incarnations of the AFL, with a different commissioner, hardly any original teams and personalities from the league on board, and completely different markets from what the original AFL would expand into (I doubt even in the original AFL's earliest days they would be willing to expand to Billings, Salina, Rapid City, Dodge City or Council Bluffs). As such, I believe the differences are distinct enough for the past league and the proposed future league to be separate articles, similar to how the various incarnations of the American Basketball Association and World Hockey Association are already treated. If agreed, I {will} do the split. Tom Danson (talk) 01:16, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
 • Split Recognition of same-sex unions in Japan into Recognition of same-sex unions in Japan and Registered partnerships in Japan or Partnership oaths in Japan. Partnership oath registries are growing in number across Japanese municipal and prefectural governments since 2015 in lieu of the Japanese government recognizing same-sex couples. I've participated in updating the main article for years, but the section on partnership registries has grown increasingly complex with a growing list of governments and mutual recognition agreements, not to mention the list on LGBT rights in Japan of governments allowing for the naming of children and in-laws of partners as family members on several registries. In addition, quite a few also allow for common-law opposite-sex couples to join said registries. If agreed, I will do the split, but I understand if a split is not agreed to at this time. RayneVanDunem (talk) 20:20, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

. If agreed, I {will} OR {cannot} do the split. 92.11.125.76 (talk) 18:56, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

 • Split Steel and tin cans into Steel Cans and Tin Cans. This article is mostly used by people to either research tin cans or steel cans, and the way the information is presented in the article, it is very difficult to find information about tin cansVMDraper (talk) 17:02, 13 December 2023 (UTC). If agreed, I will do the split. VMDraper (talk) 17:02, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
 • Split 245th Motor Rifle Division into 245th Motor Rifle Division (Soviet Union) and 245th Motor Rifle Division (Russian Federation). Consistency across Soviet and Russian units with the same name and shared history. If agreed, I cannot do the split, as I've never done one before and don't know how. Scu ba (talk) 21:50, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
 • Split Atmosphere of Earth into Atmosphere of Earth and Air. Air can be independent of Earth (e.g. if you were took air to the moon), but the atmosphere may not be. Air is just what the atmosphere is made out of. If agreed, I {will} do the split (but since I am bad a writing page intros I think somone else should do that).--2007GabrielT (talk) 16:05, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
 • Split Rajasthani languages into Rajasthani languages and Rajasthani language or Standard Rajasthani. The article is about a group of languages with having sections like history, official status, writing system etc talking about a language called Rajasthani which is a standard veriety and recognised by the Government of the state and the academics and taught in schools and universities as a language subject, also there is a movement going on to make it the state language. There seems to be a lot of sources in Hindi language on the web. So I propose the split and move these sections to the new article, there are a lot of articles about a language group and a language with similar names like Gujarati language and Gujarati languages, Sindhi language and Sindhi languages, Somali language and Somali languages etc, If agreed, I {will} do the split. Wikiwizardinho (talk) 07:02, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
 • (DISCUSS) SPLIT the K-Pop article into: K-Pop, K-Pop Dance, K-Pop Trainee System, K-Pop Fan Culture. The current main K-Pop article is too long. These topics warrant their own articles & I think in-depth analysis will be more productive in their own dedicated spaces. Their existing parts in the current K-Pop article would be reduced significantly and links to the dedicated pages would be made. This would simplify the K-Pop article whilst enabling greater documentatin of K-Pop culture on Wikipedia. If agreed, I will do this split.  Preceding unsigned comment added by Itzybella8 (talkcontribs) 01:54, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
 • Split Pejorative into Prejorative and Slur. A pejorative and a slur are distinct concepts, though related. A pejorative is any term used to express contempt or disapproval, while a slur is a specific type of pejorative that targets social groups with discriminatory intent. Slurs often involve stereotyping, typically insulting individuals or groups based on factors like ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or cognitive ability. Although dictionaries like Oxford and Wiktionary recognize this distinction, it's important to acknowledge that the modern, collective understanding of these terms evolves, and not all resources like these may reflect current usage. It is imperative to furthermore consider, for example, how the term "slur" is commonly used to refer to specific terms such as the N-word, which is viewed not just as a simple "curse word" but as a discriminate with a history of racism -- a term that falls under the definition that I have presented. Other derogatory terms like the wikt:F-slur (note this euphemistic title, and how it differs from the "F-word") and the wikt:R-slur are akin to this due to their similar constitutions in society today. If agreed, I will do the split.

 • Split Vasily and Andrey Shchelkalov into Vasily Shchelkalov and Andrey Shchelkalov. The two brothers are equally noteworthy and should have seperate page. The french and russian wiki have seperate page for both If agreed, I {will} OR {cannot} do the split. 2409:40C4:10:6394:B932:A3E9:92B8:EA66 (talk) 11:54, 12 February 2024 (UTC)

 • (DISCUSS) Split Influencer from Internet celebrity . The current Internet celebrity article is suppose to include internet celebrity, social media influencer, social media personality, internet personality, online personality, and influencer. I believe that social media influencer and influencer should be in one article while internet celebrity, social media personality, internet personality, and online personality should be in another. If agreed, I have already created User:TonyTheTiger/sandbox/Influencer for the split. TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 19:53, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
P.S. I have no experience splitting articles and would think if a significant amount needs to be moved from the Internet celbirity to the new article that I have created, someone else should handle that.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 22:36, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
 • Split Most–Híd into Most–Híd and Most–Híd 2023. The succeeding party, originally named the Hungarian Christian Democratic Alliance (MKDA-MKDSZ) and established in 2004, was renamed to Most–Híd 2023 in 2023. ValenciaThunderbolt (talk) 13:05, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
 • Split Ashley Gorley into Ashley Gorley and Tape Room Music. Although Ashley Gorley founded Tape Room Music, it is its entirely own company with 5 employees, a roster of 14 writers, and over 40 number ones. It is powerhouse independent music publishing company that should have its own page to distinguish between the two. If agreed, I cannot do the split, as I have never done one and do not know how to do it.  Preceding unsigned comment added by Emmajedow (talkcontribs) 15:50, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Awaiting consensus

After the involved article is tagged for the split discussion, the request should be added at (or moved to) the bottom of this section. This section can also be used if a proposal needs further discussion due to age, disagreement, or lack of consensus.

 • Split (DISCUSS) disadvantaged into disadvantaged (disability) and disadvantaged (economics). This article is housing two unrelated topics. Either one of the topics should be deleted from this page, or the page should be split in two. -- 64.229.88.43 (talk) 02:32, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
 • Split Lingotto into Lingotto (district) referring to the geographical area within Turin, and Lingotto (building), referring to the multipurpose building in Via Nizza, as the two are completely separate topics. The introduction of the article makes it seem as if the article is about both, which is really confusing, specially when it's mostly about the building. Milo8505 (talk) 19:35, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

 • Split Karpeles Manuscript Library Museums into Karpeles Manuscript Library Museums and List of Karpeles Manuscript Library Museums. Since there are a lot of museum locations, I think it would make sense to have a list article containing both current and former locations. I want to make sure other editors agree with this idea though before doing it, and discussion on the talk page has not yet had any responses. If agreed, I will do the split. Relinus (talk) 16:12, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
 • SPLIT Already took place, but has been (half-way) reverted: Emmanuel_Macron (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) into Presidency of Emmanuel Macron (until recently a redirect and a disambiguation page). Rationale: Article is almost 300K long; it takes forever to load. The natural break where the split ocuured—his presidency—cut the articles in half (still huge, but better than before). I conducted the split, but the split at the source article (Emmanuel Macron) was reverted. The split at The Presidency of Emmanuel Macron was not reverted. This resulted in a 150K wp:Content Fork that the person who reverted is fighting to maintain. Please weigh in on this issue. I will re-do the split if it is decided to proceed, but am walking away from the discussion for now as I have limited Wiki-time. Let me know if you need me. ______
 • Split List of awards and nominations received by the Degrassi franchise into List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi Junior High, List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi High, List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi: The Next Generation and List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi: Next Class. The list is way too long and convoluted. The fact that it is sorted by award and not by series, while I feel it isn't necessarily wrong, is a bit hard to follow for such a large franchise. Each series has a wealth of sourced awards and nominations that would warrant standalone articles anyway, especially Degrassi: The Next Generation. If the consensus is against splitting Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High, their awards and nominations can also easily be reproduced in prose on their respective pages. If agreed, I cannot do the split. See discussion at Talk:List of awards and nominations received by the Degrassi franchise#Proposed split. ToQ100gou (talk) 04:43, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

 • Split Mollusca into Mollusca and Hypothetical ancestral mollusc. I believe that the section of the page Mollusca describing the "HAM" warrants its own article, as it goes into detail about the concept of the "HAM" and its description. The "HAM" is not necessarily a vital subject for an article about mollusca in general, and I believe it should be its own subject. If agreed, I cannot do the split. • Split Abreha and Atsbeha into Abreha wa-Atsbeha (Aksumite Rulers) and Abreha wa-Atsbeha (church). This article about the possibly fictional twin rulers contains a handful of information about the church named in their honor. I propose that the section about the church should be split into two separate ones: one about the rulers (in this case, the original article without the section "Church of Abreha wa-Atsbeha") and a separate one focusing more on the church (the section "Church of Abreha wa-Atsbeha"). If agreed, I will do the split. See the discussion at Talk:Abreha and Atsbeha#Proposed Split. -IntellectuallyOlder(Alt. Account) (talk) 19:01, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
 • Split NF (rapper) into NF (rapper) and NF discography. The artist has 6 studio albums, 2 EPs, a mixtape, and about 25 singles, the majority of which have charted on multiple major country music charts, and several have won music awards. Due to the extensive nature of the discography, it would help de-clutter the original article to split it. If agreed, I will do the split. See discussion at Talk:NF (rapper)#Proposed split. • Split Reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete into Reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (material) and 2023 United Kingdom reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete scandal. The article in question has grown from a stub about the material in question into being dominated by the recent political scandal regarding its historical use and lack of maintenance within the UK. As a result it feels like it's moving outside its original purpose of documenting the material and its basic factual properties and use to instead also containing current events of politically-charged information such as what a minister said or promised to do or didn't do etc. Therefore I believe it would be better that the content relating to the political scandal aspects be moved to a separate article. If agreed, I will attempt to do the split (haven't done one before but willing to try). Rambling Rambler (talk) 20:02, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
