Today's featured list is a section included on the Main Page on Mondays and on Fridays, in which an introduction to one of Wikipedia's featured lists is displayed. The current month's queue can be found here. The lists appearing on the Main Page are scheduled by the featured list director, currently Giants2008.

To be eligible to appear on the Main Page, a list must already be featured. For more information on the featured list promotion process, please see the featured list candidates, as well as the featured list criteria. In addition, a blurb is drafted, introducing the subject of the list. Blurbs are roughly 1,000 characters in length, with no reference tags, alternate names or extraneous boldface type, although a link to the specified featured list should be emboldened; a relevant picture is also usually included with the blurb. The previous three lists that were featured on the Main Page appear along the bottom, in reverse chronological order. You can submit a list to be scheduled at the submissions page.

At the moment, lists are scheduled by the featured list director or by the featured list delegates, although we will eventually be devising a community-based system for selecting each day's list. We encourage editors to submit and to review as many blurbs as possible. If you notice a problem with an upcoming featured list to appear on the Main Page, please leave a message at the Main Page errors page or here.

From the previous featured list (Friday, April 5)

The Canadian province of Alberta has 438 species of birds. The northern part of the province is largely boreal forest, leading into the Great Plains in the south-east. The south-west portion of the province is generally temperate coniferous forest, bordered by the Rocky Mountains. These different ecosystems, along with the border formed by the Rocky Mountains, contribute to the diversity of birds in the province. Notably, several "eastern" and "western" pairs can be seen in Alberta, such as the eastern bluebird and western bluebird. Of the 438 species, 125 are accidentals, eight were introduced to Alberta, one species is extinct, and another is possibly extinct. (Full list...)

"Pachelbel's Howitzer", a piece that reworks the Canon into multiple genres for piano

Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D major has been credited with inspiring a significant number of pop songs since the 1960s. After the mid-Baroque era piece was revived from obscurity in the 1960s, its chord progression, bassline, and melodic structure were reproduced in a number of contemporary pop songs, a phenomenon attributed to the memorability and simplicity of the work as well as renewed interest in it. While Pachelbel's Canon itself is not a staple of pop music, it shares common roots with other, more significant chord progressions that lay the foundations of modern pop music. Chatswood

There are 46 Sydney Metro stations and 113 kilometres (70 mi) of track open or under construction. The Sydney Metro is a rapid transit rail system in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The system is owned by the Government of New South Wales and is operated under contract by Metro Trains Sydney, a joint venture between MTR Corporation, John Holland Group, and UGL Rail. The first section of the Sydney Metro, Sydney Metro Northwest, opened on 26 May 2019 between Tallawong and Chatswood (pictured). This consists of thirteen stations, five of which were existing stations along the Epping to Chatswood rail link converted to metro use, and nine of which were new stations. Sydney Metro City & Southwest is planned to open in two stages: the section between Chatswood and Sydenham via the central business district is planned to open in 2024, and the section between Sydenham and Bankstown is planned to open in 2025.
