Hierarchy definition

No classification of this project has been defined.

Adopt an article

You might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.

Current adoptions

Style conventions

The following are conventions for the editing of articles within the scope of WikiProject Luxembourg. To discuss the conventions as they are now, or to suggest new additions, visit the talk page.

Spelling and usage

  • British English is to be used for all articles. This reflects the overwhelming usage in both official and unofficial circles in Luxembourg and Europe as a whole. Exceptions may be made if the article is connected to a country in which the norm is to use another dialect of English, e.g. Luxembourg American.

Languages

  • Article titles are to be rendered as they are usually in English. A good way to check is to use the Luxembourg Tourist Office, or similar 'official' sites directed at English speakers. This is not to say that names not derived from English are unacceptable, provided that they are regularly adopted by English speakers, e.g. Gëlle Fra. If it is the case that an article does use a non-English title, the usual English-derived title is to be the first name given, as in the case of Gëlle Fra's title of 'Monument of Remembrance'.
  • All alternative names in the three official languages of Luxembourg should then be given. They are to be in the order of: Luxembourgish, French, German. For an example, see Adolphe Bridge. If a name in one of the languages is the same as that in English, it can be excepted, e.g. 'Eisch' is the name in English, French, and German, but not Luxembourgish.

Settlements

  • Settlements should be defined as being 'towns', 'small towns', 'villages', or 'hamlets' depending entirely upon population size as follows:
0 – 25: Hamlet
25 – 250: Village
250 – 1,000: Small Town
1,000 +: Town
Luxembourg City is a special case, and is always described as a 'city', despite that term having a specific legal meaning (see: List of cities in Luxembourg).

Stub templates

There are currently four stub templates used extensively by WikiProject Luxembourg:

Stubs are managed by the Stub-sorting WikiProject. Before creating a new stub, you should propose it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. See Wikipedia:Stub for general guidelines on proposing stub templates and categories. DO NOT simply create new stub templates, as these will be deleted.

Recent contributions

New articles

Please feel free to list your new Luxembourg-related articles here (newer articles at the top, please). Any article created in the past three months is eligible to be listed here. You don't have to list all of your creations, but any that might be of interest to other users would be welcomed (all stubs are probably notable). Alternatively, if you have created many articles on similar subjects, you might want to choose one as an example of the new additions to the WikiProject.

Assessment

The assessment department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's articles on Luxembourg. Currently, the article ratings are used primarily within the project itself to aid in recognising excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.

The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WikiProject Luxembourg article}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in a set of categories that serves as the basis for an automatically generated worklist.
