Some feedback

  1. Trying to use the recent changes list is like trying to play Whack-a-Mole. On a serious note though, it needs to be slowed down.
  2. Add list of warnings to use and the level to use: Just like Twinkle.
  3. The GUI is kind of ugly. Okay, I know you probably can't achieve much with JavaScript and CSS, but ya' know.
  4. This.

Best, Insulam Simia (talk) 16:42, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Would like to second all of the above. Some suggestions;
  1. Filters - IP edits, main space only, new page creations, edits by new users etc.
  2. Should also create a sub-page for the active user and log all actions there.
Great work though, looking forward to seeing it progress! Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 18:35, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for the feedback. I'll address them all one by one. Firstly Insulams':
  1. I'll slow it down to 5 seconds between each refresh. The real problem right now is a lack of filters which will come soon
  2. Custom warnings will come in the next version- probably within a week
  3. GUI- I need more. What don't you like? I can fix quite a bit up but I need details.
  4. Working on it. I think I know the cause of the bug, but I'm still working
Now for James's feedback:
  1. Working on it. This is one thing I don't want to rush. We (some others and me) are trying to make it much more powerful than the original igloo filters but it'll take some time. It's being actively worked on though
  2. Not viable. Maybe for CSDs (which are coming two versions from now) but not for general actions.

--Kangaroopowah 18:55, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Well it looks a little bit abstract and grey, the buttons have no explanation of what they do and there are no links to the user editing the page or the diff I'm inspecting. Insulam Simia (talk) 19:05, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
The images should be self explanatory. I could add a title attribute that would explain what the buttons do on the mouse over. As for links, why would you need a link to the diff you're inspecting? It's right there. --Kangaroopowah 19:29, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Well, as a temporary thing, until the custom warning feature is ready. Insulam Simia (talk) 19:34, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
A title attribute for the buttons would be great, (what does the box do below the back/forward button do for instance?). Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 07:23, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Another reason also to have a diff link is if I see a ref where I need to do something else rather than revert and warn. Insulam Simia (talk) 09:31, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
It would be great if Wikipedia:Igloo/help could be updated to reflect the tool's current state. Perhaps if you made the help page reflect the current build and also created a changelog page, that way other editors could start adding to the help as you add/improve features. Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 07:22, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Agreed. Insulam Simia (talk) 09:31, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
The changelog page is at Wikipedia:Igloo/dev. Feel free to update the help page! By the way, igloo 0.7 is out now, so enjoy. It comes with multiple revert types and a whole lot more! --Kangaroopowah 22:29, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Ah thanks, I'll probably start fiddling tomorrow! Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 23:07, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

One thing I've noticed is that if I scroll to the bottom of a diff, and then click on another article title, the diff for the next article starts at the bottom and I have to scroll up. I vaguely recall this might have also been the case with the original (AleJrb) version.

It would be helpful to have links to the article and history. Being able to go directly to the article is helpful in those cases when, for example, one bracket or pipe has been added to a complex table. Sometimes it's quicker and easier to look at the article to determine whether the change fixed the layout or broke it. Linking to the history and/or diff is useful because sometimes a vandal has added to previously unreverted vandalism (by another user). One needs to go back through the history to find the last clean version.

One other feature request: Could you, if possible, add a BLP filter, i.e. only articles in the Category:Living people show up.

Thanks for your work. –Wine Guy~Talk 21:44, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi! I'll address your concerns in turn
  1. I'll look into that, thanks for pointing it out
  2. Theres a history dropdown under the clock. I can add a link to the article though in igloo.
  3. Filters are something I want to do right so I asked one of my friends to help me out with it. It'll take a while, but when it comes it'll be great (ETA 1-3 months).

--Kangaroopowah 22:29, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Could you add the functionality to move through the feed using the up/down arrow keys, that would make it much easier to be thorough, even if the list is growing quickly. Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 23:09, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Sure, I'll try to get that in with the next release --Kangaroopowah 05:45, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Just want to offer my thanks to all involved for getting igloo back up and running again (it's like finding a comfy old jumper that you thought was lost for ever down the back of the laundry hamper). The updated interface is nice. However, since I'm apparently incapable of proffering gratitude without asking for more, I wondered whether it might be possible to reintroduce the flagging system that I seem to recall existed in the beta version (whereby suspect edits were highlighted in the edit list)? It was generally pretty accurate, and made reviewing a much quicker process. That would be nice, but the most important thing is that my preferred anti-vandal system is back online, and that, gents, has made my day. Many thanks. Yunshui  19:02, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

This is coming two versions from now. We're doing filters in a way that adds onto the old (all old functionality will be retained, but there will be some neat new stuff) but we want to get the server working with just storing settings so we can perform a stress test, so to speak, on the remote server, to make sure that it doesn't crash. However, I want to point out that we're also doing some new things with settings:
  • We're going to give every user a chance to store settings locally on wikipedia, instead of on the remote server
  • If the user decides to store settings remotely, we will also store everything locally as a backup so that if the server goes down, igloo can keep running.
As a status update on how long it's going to take to get the 0.8 release of igloo up and running, I'd say it would take around a week - two more. It's coming with two main new features- CSD tagging in igloo, and a way to manage settings, plus a host of other features. I'd say we're about 75% through with settings, and we're done with everything else. Thanks for the interest! --Kangaroopowah 04:57, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Post update to old users

There are over 100 editors in Category:Wikipedians who use igloo, (I'm sure I saw someone suggest this elsewhere but I can't find it now) I think it would be a good idea to leave a message on their talkpages alerting them that Igloo is now up and running and feedback would be useful. I could submit a BAG request to get my bot to do it, subst: ing {{User:MoohanBOT/IglooUpdate}} ~~~~ (Feel free to edit that by the way, it was put together very roughly!) which displays as;

User:MoohanBOT/IglooUpdate

Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 11:39, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the offer but I actually already asked someone to submit a bot request at BAG to do this, specifically User:TyA. --Kangaroopowah 22:25, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Update?

Hey, is there any news on the development of Igloo? Also I noticed the Bot request to notify former users of Igloo that it's back was withdrawn, I can pick that up but don't want to step on any toes. Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 09:50, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Igloo development is till going on. It's been later than expected due to bugs, but we should be done withing 2-3 weeks. As for the bot request, I'd rather not have that reopened until I get to 1.0 Igloo, so the previous users can return to an igloo that has more than what the previous igloo did. --Kangaroopowah 17:49, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Igloo broken?

Has Igloo broken or been turned off? I can no longer get it to run either from the sidebar (doesn't even appear) or from the project page. Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 12:27, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, Igloo 0.7 was using some old APIs that Mediawiki no longer supports. I didn't see this because I'm using the dev copy of igloo- 0.8. The problem has been fixed and the current igloo version is 0.7.1. (PS about igloo development, I'm waiting for methecooldude to respond about setting up a server to host the php backend to igloo. All the frontend code for igloo in 0.8 is done.) Thanks for sticking by! --Kangaroopowah

Bot/redirect talk page

If a talk page is a redirect, which is common for bots - when an Igloo user is going to leave a message about an edit, it should follow the redirect. Avicennasis @ 07:46, 16 Kislev 5774 / 07:46, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Update?

@Kangaroopower: it's been quite a long time since we heard anything or Igloo was updated, any news? Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 13:14, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

@Jamesmcmahon0: igloo 0.8 should be out within 10 days. It'll store settings, but it won't be as failsafe as possible, in that should for some reason your API settings be reset, your igloo settings will be lost. An optional external server connection hooked up to WMF labs should come in 0.9. Thanks, --Kangaroopowah 04:46, 7 March 2014 (UTC)
@Jamesmcmahon0: If all goes well there will be an update to 0.8 (has a settings module and a csd module) by the end of the day. Thanks, --Kangaroopowah 21:11, 8 March 2014 (UTC)

@Jamesmcmahon0: Igloo 0.8 has been released! Thanks for sticking by! --Kangaroopowah 02:26, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

First impressions of 0.8

Thanks for rolling out the new update! I just had a quick look and have a few suggestions/bugs :p

  • I cannot see the settings cog, either it's not appearing for me, or it is and it needs to be more obvious.
  • The 'welcome page' has some capitalisation typos
  • It would be good if you cannot add the same CSD tag to the same page, I accidentally clicked twice then had to go and clean up the article and user page manually.
  • The up down arrows to navigate the list is nice but I found it only worked for 2/3 pages then I had to click the list again to make it start working again.

Sorry that all seems a bit negative, I really appreciate the work you're doing and igloo is shaping up to be a great tool! Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 10:28, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

  • What's your monitor display setting?
  • Tell me if they're still there.
  • This is a great idea- I'll add this in the next update.
  • This is really buggy. Tbh, I wouldn't have added these if I didn't promise to add it- and considering iglooNet didn't come with this release, I felt like I needed to keep this promise.

Thanks and one request- could you screenshot igloo 0.8 and change the infobox picture at WP:IGLOO? Thanks! --Kangaroopowah 03:17, 14 March 2014 (UTC)

Hey, my monitor resolution is 1360 x 768. See this screenshot for the missing cog icon. Also I realised, I can't check the welcome screen again since it only shows up once :p
I'll wait till the settings thing is working for me to update the screenshot, but happy to do that! Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 09:58, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
Looks good to me. A couple of observations regarding the page deletion function (which, by the way, is a fantastic inclusion):
  • Having the page tagging function right next to the edit tagging function could - alright, did - result in misclicks, accidentally requesting deletion of a page when trying to revert an edit. The 10+ edits throttle is a very, very sensible feature!
  • As an admin, the interface offers me the option to straight up delete pages instead of CSD tagging them, just like Twinkle. However, it doesn't actually work; I've tried it on a couple of pages and have had to resort to going back into Wikipedia and taking them out manually.
As I think I mentioned higher up on this page some time ago, a reintroduction of the suspected vandalism highlighting function would be greatly appreciated.
Having just done a major software update at work, I know how irksome it is when all you get back is requests for changes, so let me add that I'm a big fan of the new look igloo, and look forward to using it regularly. Hopefully this comes across as constructive criticism, rather than, "wah! you changed it!". Yunshui  23:08, 14 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for all the feedback! @Jamesmcmahon0:, I found the problem, and I'm going to push a hotfix. @Yunshui:, fixing the UI for the csd dropdown is going to take some time- sorry. As far as deletion not working, I'm not an admin here, so all the deletion is done on pure theory as far as the Wikipedia API works and I haven't had a chance to test it myself, but will see what I can do (if you could help delete some test pages for me to test my code that's be great- ping me on my talk if this is the case). Highlight/Filters is coming in 0.9. Thanks a bunch! --Kangaroopowah 01:10, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Igloo 0.81 has been released. It fixes all of the aforementioned bugs. A complete list can be found on the changelog. Best, --Kangaroopowah 02:21, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks KP. It might just be me, but Igloo's not now working at all - all I see is the sidebar list of pages and the welcome message at the bottom - the page preview window and buttons bar are blank. Same effect in both Chrome and Firefox; I've cleared both caches but still nothing.
On a more positive note, I'd be happy to run some test deletions (or any other admin functions you're thinking of adding) for you; at least I will be as soon as I can use Igloo again! Yunshui  08:31, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
That's really weird- can you open your console on chrome (Ctrl + Shift + J) and go to the errors section and tell me what you see? Thanks, --Kangaroopowah 00:15, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
Done; emailed you my findings. Yunshui  11:19, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Welcome non-anon users

Would it be possible to get igloo to leave {{Welcomevandal}} instead of {{Uw-vandalism1}} if they are a logged in user and that was their first edit. Similarly using {{Welcomespam}} instead of {{Uw-spam1}}. This way we can still revert the vandalism without biting the newbies! If they continue to vandalise then the normal system should be applied, basically we give them one benefit of the doubt edit and try to encourage better editing rather than jumping straight to warning.  Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamesmcmahon0 (talkcontribs) 14:48, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

@Jamesmcmahon0: Do you think it should jump from welcomevandal/spam straight to uw-2? --Kangaroopowah 00:30, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
@Kangaroopower: If that's possible it probably would be best but I don't think much is lost if it adds uw-1. Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 09:35, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
@Jamesmcmahon0: I ask because it's incredibly simple for me to choose one or the other the way igloo's set up, so I'm curious as to which way do you think is the best- welcomevandal to uw1 or welcomevandal to uw2. Thanks, --Kangaroopowah 22:04, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
@Kangaroopower: In that case I think welcomevandal to uw2 is best as that way they still will only get 5 'warnings' before being blocked. 95.147.147.123 (talk) 09:32, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Feedback

Hi there! I've recently been trying igloo as I am interested in an anti-vandal tool that I can use from my iPad. (I'm not sure if Safari for iOS is technically supported, but it works to a decent extent.) I have some bugs/suggestions:

  • On a couple of occasions I have hit the revert button, but ClueBot NG beat me to the revert. Then, however, igloo still added a warning to the user talk - so the IP got two warnings for the same revert. example talk page Could this be fixed?
  • Would it be possible to display only IP edits in the recent changes list?

Thanks for developing this tool. BethNaught (talk) 16:58, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

@BethNaught: Hey! Thanks for using Igloo and sorry for the extremely late response;
  • Good catch, I'll fix this in the next version
  • Filters are coming in the next version so it'll be possible to do this then.

Thanks, --Kangaroopowah 20:49, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

"Updated" super text in tools bar

The entry in the sidebar to launch igloo displays as iglooupdated. I understand that igloo is always being updated but shouldn't the super text be removed since most users have probably seen the update. It'll help cleanup the sidebar and will have the igloo entry sit on just one line. Thanks, -24Talk 20:01, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

I can't load Igloo. Is it because I have the launcher for Vada there? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 19:25, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

Edit queue: how?

Hello, I just got into using igloo and I wonder: in what way the list of edits on the left has been composed? It does not get mentioned anywhere. Do you use an algorithm of a kind, if so, which? And why do you not use colours or something to indicate suspicion? These are just my first questions! (Keep on the good work..). Super48paul (talk) 09:31, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

Hey Paul- sorry for the late response, I've been busy IRL recently. Right now, it's just the most recent edits to Wikipedia, but in the next version I'm hoping to include filters- if not then, then in 1.0 at the latest. Thanks for using Igloo, --Kangaroopowah 18:09, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

Igloo Thanks & Suggestions

I've been trying igloo for a short time now, and I have to admit that it is much, much, MUCH more efficient than patrolling recent changes manually. Having said that, it is granted that I have found a few problems. I think that perhaps there should be a way that recent changes in users' sandboxes and other special pages don't show up in IGLOO. In fact, how about IGLOO be updated to only include recent changes on actual articles? Perhaps that function is hard to code, but it would help a lot, as I have accidentally performed edits in user's sandboxes! Carwile2 *Shoot me a message* 00:05, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

AIV problems

Hi, I am using igloo and I see vandalism. I revert it, and it says "successfully reverted". It then says reporting to AIV, and I decide to check it. It doesn't appear on the AIV backlog, and I open my contribs page to find that the vandalism wasn't even reverted in the first place. Is there like a glitch or what?--ABCDEFADtalk to me 21:05, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

That is really weird, and I've never heard of that happening before. Do you remember the page and/or user in question? Thanks! --Kangaroopowah 21:42, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
Forgot, but one different case was on Vancouver which a Huggler reverted it already. I think it's an edit conflict with the Huggler, but igloo probably had a glitch and put "successfully reverted".--ABCDEFADtalk to me 20:11, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
Just ran into another case: General relativity was changed by this IP. Edit, if you check the history, appears to have been reverted by User:Sionus. It says "Successfully reverted the change to General relativity made by 208.74.156.6!" and says " Attempting to report 208.74.156.6 to undefined for vandalism after final warning...". There is no message after that, and nothing appears on my contribs.--ABCDEFADtalk to me 22:07, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

Improvements

Using igloo is a bit hard right now. Recent changes flood in and most of them are okay edits, and plenty of them are within user sandboxes. There's no way to use the top arrows to go through each edit, as it's always grayed out. I suggest an edit-navigation system similar to STiki or Huggle, and options to disable seeing RC edits from bots and seeing RC edits in the user namespace. Sick of getting irrelevant edits by the DPL bot. CatcherStorm talk 04:28, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

I also suggest that we have the option to only patrol IP and newbie edits. Looks like I'm sticking to Real-Time Recent Changes until this has been improved. KGirlTrucker81 huh? what I've been doing 03:36, 26 December 2016 (UTC)
One improvement that would be very handy would be a session-specific option to flag particular pages to be ignored in the feed. Often if someone is making a series of improvements to an article, that article pops up again and again - would be handy if we could click a button to exclude that page from the feed for the duration of that igloo session. Probably more difficult to code than I'm imagining, though...
Also useful would be the option to filter edits by namespace - some users might find it easier to use igloo if it was possible to restrict the feed to mainspace edits only... Yunshui  15:21, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

Got some problems...

Igloo seems to be disabled on both of my computers at present. On my PC, using Chrome, the sidebar link appears, but when I try to launch igloo, it just hangs (reloading the page does nothing). On my Mac, using Firefox, the sidebar link doesn't appear at all. I've reinstalled the script (just in case the old Ale jrb script had been superseded), and have cleared the cache on both devices. So my question is... where am I going wrong here? Yunshui  21:38, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

I tell a lie - the sidebar link is now gone in Chrome on my PC, too. Yunshui  15:17, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

Hello. I noticed some cases where sneaky vandalism happened but has not yet been reverted, and subsequently followed by other edits by unsuspecting users. I'm hoping you would add a link to main page(s) for cases found in search results.  Preceding unsigned comment added by CommanderOzEvolved (talkcontribs) 06:35, 22 July 2018 (UTC)

Won't report users correctly!

IGLOO won't report users after 4 warnings for vandalism to AIV. Could someone look into this? --IanDBeacon (talk) 17:50, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

Feature request

Hi, Kangaroopower! I realize you haven't edited for almost a year and are probably busy in real life. If you do find yourself thinking that it would be fun to work on igloo again, I have a request for a feature that no semi-automated tool seems yet to have. I entirely understand if 1.0 is complex enough already, but I'd really appreciate this functionality somewhere, someday. HLHJ (talk) 04:26, 10 November 2019 (UTC)

Hey! I'll definitely look into it. I've actually been taking a look at Igloo a lot recently and I've been hoping to add a lot of the features that I always wanted to add/refactor some of the code. I'll definitely look into your suggestion then. Thanks! --Kangaroopowah 01:41, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

Hey! Just to double-check, is igloo compatible with the Chromium-based version of Microsoft Edge, like Google Chrome?
