Hi రుద్రుడు. List of templates for CW#78 is special as it is used as regular expressions, it matches all templates that start with one of the regular expressions I think. If you have templates that start like one of the references template but shouldn't be counted, maybe you could probably modify the regular expression to clearly mark that after the template name you should have a whitespace, pipe or closing bracket. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 09:31, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi రుద్రుడు. I think you should use the same trick that is used on RE\s*[|}], try adding \s*[|}] after the template name to tell CW/WPCleaner that after this name you want any number of whitespace characters and then a pipe or a closing bracket. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 09:16, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

It just seems that the page are already fixed, so for each page WPCleaner asks checkwiki if it still find the error (calls to checkarticle) and if not, to mark the page as fixed (calls to checkwiki_bots). Paste functionality is lost on cde/motif

When i changed nimbus to cde/motif paste function (ctrl+v) is lost in full analsysis and load pages.

    • cd directory x
    • java -jar getdown.jar . client -credentials credentials.txt
    • login
    • settings -> general -> change look & feel
    • nimbus -> cde/motif
    • logout
    • out of directory x (cd)
    • cd directory x
    • java -jar getdown.jar . client -credentials credentials.txt
    • random article -> full analysis
    • copy some text from text file
    • paste in article
    • nothing happens

WPCleaner doesn't seem to be loading my settings

I launched WPCleaner today, and it doesn't seem to be loading my settings. I first received a screen asking me to select my preferred Wikipedia, which is fine. However, the Internal links screen doesn't show my max backlinks anymore. Also, the Disambiguation screen doesn't show which backlinks I've marked as normal or as needing help. Hi GoingBatty. That's strange. Settings are saved with Java preferences mechanism, so the way they are stored is OS dependent : on Windows, they are stored in Windows registry in \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Prefs\org\wikipediacleaner (use regedit32.exe to access the registry) ; on Linux, I believe they are stored in a .prefs folder in the WPCleaner folder. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 09:53, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

Unable to load checkwiki errors

@NicoV , since yesterday i am unable to load checkwiki errors, gaveup after an hour. I am using checkwiki errors on te wiki, the bottom logs are routine: API POST, API GET. Is there some kind of maintenance? రుద్రుడు చెచ్క్వికి (talk) 04:09, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi రుద్రుడు చెచ్క్వికి. I just tried, and I didn't see any problem. I logged in WPCleaner on tewiki, clicked on Project Check Wikipedia, then Load all errors => I got lists of pages with errors. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 06:20, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

Apostrophes

Sorry if this is stupid question but why is WPCleaner suggesting apostrophe replacements ?, For instance in Niceguyedcs edit here both before and after apostrophes show up as one at Apostrophe, Am I missing something here?

I've also realised my brand spanking new 2022 laptop is also using the "old apostrophe" - I'm baffled as to what the differences are and why one needs replacing over the other ?, Many thanks, –Davey2010Talk 15:48, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi @NicoV, Ah okay, Embarrassingly I've never realised the 2 were substantially different until I zoomed in just now, (I did copy/paste the apostrophe mark on the apostrophe article and both are showing when I search so didn't think there was a difference till now),
Anyway I'll be honest I don't really understand the difference between both so it would be highly stupid to replace them!, I'd also hate to replace them and find out on some articles this was a false positive,

@Davey2010: The typo rule enforces MOS:STRAIGHT: Use "straight" quotation marks, not “curly” ones. (For single apostrophe quotes: 'straight', not ‘curly’.) GoingBatty (talk) 17:51, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
Ahhhhh okay, The note there also says "Curly quotation marks and apostrophes are deprecated on the English Wikipedia",
@GoingBatty so just so I'm on the same page as everyone else - Any apostrophe that WPC says can be changed should be changed ?,

error 545: can i add "the hyphenated form" for various parameters

@NotAGenious: When you said WPCleaner was down, I tried running it on my own computer, and it failed to start : it was probably a problem on toolforge. Same as GoingBatty, it's working for me now, so toolforge seems up again. If it doesn't work for you now, I would suggest reinstalling. Can you also check your java version ? JRE or JDK only OR both?

to run both jre and jdk are required? docs [ Installation with getdown on installation pagec] say jdk for macos, just java for linux and windows. asking because it might help arch linux users, because of recent changes. from my pov, it makes a lot of sense, saves around 70mb. హరుడు (talk) 09:35, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

Issue caused by removing __TOC__

Hi! In this edit, the __TOC__ that previously moved the table of contents to be above the {{clear}} template was removed, causing it to take up much more vertical space than needed (before/after). I'm guessing this counts as a bug report, but I'm mentioning it here because the Phabricator link at the top of the page requires an account to use.

By the tool shouldn't do that on its own, do you mean that the removal of __TOC__ in that edit was not suggested by WPCleaner (which I assumed from the tag and edit summary), but instead was made manually by the editor, and only the other changes in that edit were suggested by WPCleaner? 91.129.104.148 (talk) 23:30, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
No, I meant that the removal wasn't done by the tool, but it may have been suggested by it. Human using the tool has to decide whether suggestions are valid or not. --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 04:01, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
I guess in this case the editor might have missed the issue caused by the edit if they used the Vector 2022 skin, since that always shows the table of contents in a sidebar, not in a location determined by __TOC__.
Wikipedia:WikiProject_Check_Wikipedia/List_of_errors#97 says that this change is done to help screen readers. Does even non-text content like {{clear}} cause issues?

Problems with preferences erased on Windows

Hi everybody ! Apparently, there are some issues from time to time on WPCleaner preferences being erased on Windows (the symptom is that WPCleaner will ask for your preferred wiki and you won't have your custom configuration). I saw it also on my own computer, but I don't understand what's happening. I know it happened also for GoingBatty at least

On Windows, preferences are stored in the Windows Registry (regedit32.exe) in the folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Prefs\org\wikipediacleaner. I believe that some action external to WPCleaner causes the removal in Windows Registry, but I don't know which one...

If this problems happens to you, can you try to remember what actions you did since the last time WPCleaner worked properly ? (like installing/uninstalling/upgrading Java itself) and tell me ?

If you want to have a backup of your preferences, you can start Windows Registry, go to the folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Prefs\org\wikipediacleaner and export it. Preferences will be saved in a .reg file. To reimport it, simply double click on the .reg file and follow the instructions. NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 12:12, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

To be fair, Windows updates are very frequent and can mess up with your registry. As an aside, this problem does not occur on Mac or Linux as they don't use registries. They use a different system instead. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 01:02, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

This is not a browser issue. Indic languages are displayed correctly in all modern browsers. The problem is with the WPCleaner software. —Yahya (talk • contribs.) 16:26, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Yahya.
I know that there are issues in rendering text with several languages on WPCleaner. For example, I spent some time on Telugu without any real success.
I think it's a problem due to Java not rendering some texts correctly, and I don't see what I can do on my end...
There's one thing that you can try :
  • ensure you have a font installed on your system that supports Bengali (install one if you don't have one yet),
  • go in WPCleaner options and select this font for rendering text in WPCleaner
  • quit and restart WPCleaner and hope it helps...
