Hey, I was writing Youth Girls Competition (a junior women's Australian Rules league) and I couldn't find any decent category to cover it as a junior league, in fact the only decent category I could find was Category:Children's sport!! Seems a bit weird. Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Just letting anyone who is interested in domestic cricket know I have updated all the Sheffield Shield teams with nice little infoboxes, although the total stats I got from cricket australia seem very dodgy to me. ie NSW only having played 110 games in over 100 years? Anyone know where to get more accurate info? (Seems like CA have better things to do than worry about history).

National teams are generally named (Country) national (sport) team eg. France national rugby union team, Argentina national football team, Australian cricket team, Japan national baseball team. (Notice cricket is an exception because the West Indies aren't really a nation, so "national" is omitted for all teams.) Should we name state teams in a similar way? eg.

• Tasmanian Tigers -> Tasmania state cricket team or Tasmanian cricket team
• Southern Redbacks -> South Australia state cricket team or South Australian cricket team
• Queensland Bulls -> Queensland state cricket team or Queensland cricket team
• (etc.)

• New South Wales Rugby League team - New South Wales state rugby league team or New South Wales rugby league team
• Queensland Rugby League team/Queensland State of Origin Team (to be merged) - Queensland state rugby league team or Queensland rugby league team

In the case of the cricket teams, it would help when team names change with sponsorship arrangements change.

In the case of the rugby league teams, I don't know a lot about the sport so I've been trying to discuss on the article talk pages but haven't got a clear consensus.

I've created some templates with the hex values of official colours of the domestic cricket teams. I've added them to the category Category:Australian_cricket_colour_templates - that page also has a sample of their colours (some of the colours used were a bit off the exact ones used - compare old and new versions of Pura Cup to see the difference.)

Hi Chuq. You may get a better response at WP:AWNB and WT:CRIC. Personally, while I would certainly participate in such a project, perhaps rather than a separate WikiProject it would be more suitable to establish an Australian cricket task force (including a discussion page, to-do list and a few other tools) inside the two parent projects. I am not sure that the scope needs all the paraphernalia (such as tagging) that comes with a project. Regardless, I am certainly keen to be involved. Also, have a look at the advert above. That's possible, but what prompted me to suggest a separate project was because I am currently crossposting comments both here an WT:CRIC. A task force would have the same problem - which project is it a part of? I am happy for a new project to form, my concern is WP:CRIC and WP:AUS are strong projects with plenty of interaction and collaboration. Could someone have a browse through this article? There's some very POV-sounding sentiments expressed and it appears to have been written to seem like her decision to fire her father and return to Australia caused World War 1 and 9/11. I've removed an extremely strange statement claiming her parting ways with her father and a love triangle with her trainer caused her to fail miserably at tennis but it's possible (if not likely) there's similar kind of bias elsewhere in the page. Do members of this Wikiproject have an opinion about how height is displayed metrically in biographies within its scope? In Australia height is expressed in centimetres when using the metric system, and this is reflected in sources. Despite this however, some editors from non-metric countries are enforcing metres as the unit for displaying height (example). It seems a very trivial thing, but the use of metres simply isn't supported by reliable sources as far as I can see. Over at Talk:Sydney Derby (A-League) there's an Requested move discussion underway (it's the only thread on that page) to change the name of the article Sydney Derby (A-League) to Sydney Derby, bypassing the disambiguation.

It bothers me that the vast majority of editors at Talk:Sydney Derby (A-League) are obviously soccer fans, who inevitably all think that the change is a good idea. Editors with an interest on other sports, or even better, an objective view, are not even aware that the discussion is underway.

To my mind, any sport with two teams in Sydney has at least some claim to the title Sydney Derby, but only soccer fans are commenting. Maybe others with thoughts on this matter should take a look. HiLo48 (talk) 11:10, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

Can I have some more eyes at the above article please. Only two of us have played on Talk page for this issue, so we need more input. An editor who is happy have players simply play for different codes when they move from one form of rugby to another insists on describing them as being poached when they choose to play Australian football. I think even the editor involved agrees that "poached" is a non-neutral term, but argues that it is what actually happened. I believe it would do no harm at all, and be a much better look for Wikipedia, if we used the neutral term "recruited", but he won't have a bar of it.

I don't think, however, that titling the post "Anti-AFL POV pushing at Queensland rugby league team" is in any way "neutral" regardless of "what the topic deserves". WP:FORUMSHOP doesn't make an exception for "what a topic deserves". Let other editors come to their own conclusions without trying to influence them if it is as open and shut as you claim (which also makes the outcome either way significantly clearer/less controversial). I just discovered {{SydneyRacing}} {{MelbourneRacing}}, {{AdelaideRacing}}, which are navboxes listing metropolitan venues for horseracing, harness racing and greyhound racing. Is this a useful distinction that should be maintained of not listing venues for motor racing, drag racing, speedway, cycling, running, sailing, rowing and any other racing-style sports in metropolitan Australia? If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Australia and Oceania like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Australia but fuelled by a contest if desirable to really get articles on every state/territory and subject mass improved. After every 100 articles done for Australia this would feed into the main Oceania one. I will start a smaller challenge for your field of focus if there is the support. I would like some support from wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start anyway with some articles to make doing a Destubathon for Australia and Oceania worthwhile! I am looking for a policy (any policy) on the naming of articles about stadiums.

I have a strong personal belief that in a quality encyclopaedia we should prefer long standing formal names for stadiums over commercially sponsored stadium names, which change quite often. Links for the commercial names should still exist, but should redirect to the long term formal names.

Wikipedia seems to have an appalling mix of both forms of naming for primary articles. To me, it's not a good look.

I'm working on the former Olympic boxer Justann Crawford's stub as an assignment and I need some help.

1. Tracing of newspaper clippings I managed to contact Justann Crawford himself on Facebook and he sent me a bunch of printed newspaper clippings about him, but the info for citations is cut out. I tried Trove but none of the clippings he sent me are coming up, is there any way I could trace these clippings?

2. "Academic Sources" for Olympians? I'm trying my best to find "academic sources" to fulfill the requirements for the assignment, but I found one single journal article called The Sport of Racism by Colin Tatz and that's it. Im aware that I could not use self-written biographies, but I did find a lot more information on online interviews with him. Is it common for athletes to lack academic journals/ research? I took a look at biographies of other boxers and they too rely on non-academic sources for their wiki biographies, so I'm asking for some advice. I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

• John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

• John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Hello, I hope this is the right place for this.

Jim Comerford has been declared to be within the scope of this WikiProject but I don't think it belongs in the Australian Sports or even Sports WikiProjects at all. I'm not aware that Comerford was ever particularly involved in sport, though I suppose I could well be missing something. Not everyone from Kurri Kurri is a rugby league professional, though I admit it may be close. ;) If Comerford has a sports connection that I'm not aware of, please give me an RS and I'll update his article; otherwise he should probably be removed from both the Sports and Australian Sports lists.
