A generic article with specific data

I think that the deposited recent edit of results should be at a separate article -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_Western_Australia any thoughts on that? JarrahTree 10:08, 20 October 2023 (UTC)

If required, it could possibly be titled List of referendum results in Western Australia. Two things to note however, the table is directly copied out of Referendums in Australia (just trimmed back to state level) without attribution and it does not list the state-specific referendums like our frequent daylight saving ones. Calistemon (talk) 12:38, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
I provided attribution and warned the user responsible using Template:Uw-copying. Graham87 (talk) 13:07, 20 October 2023 (UTC)

Definition of "modern" vs "historical" Noongar people

Comments are invited at Talk:Noongar#Modern_vs_Historical on guidelines for Modern vs Historical. Are Graham Farmer (1935-2019) or Jack Davis (playwright) (1917-2000) "historical"? Mitch Ames (talk) 23:27, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

There is a tendency by people to consider someone who passed before they were born to label people as historical. IMHO there should be no distinction and the article should only identify a limited number of people who have a legacy impact Like Polly, Jack, Yagan, Kim Scott the other people(played 3 games for Freo) can go in a list where era's interests, and other such collations can be assigned at least until WikiData becomes a more acceptable way to create lists. 09:51, 30 November 2023 (UTC) Gnangarra 09:51, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
It can be much more complex than that, as some groups have very specific rules regarding whether people are mentioned or images shown of deceased persons. It is not universal, and interestingly broadcasters such as the ABC have 'blanket' disclaimers regarding people who have died. As to the context of 'historical', 'notable' or 'legacy impact', the specific discussion regarding the subject are well beyond a wikipedia talk page. It is something that has implications for the whole Australian project as to how to identify people of any ethnic identification, not any one group. JarrahTree 01:52, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Revitalising the meetup and contact process

Due to COVID restrictions and other reasons, Perth Western Australia meetups have recently been far apart.

After the meetup this Sunday 3rd December, a more regular contact point for editors who are both interested in real life contact, and anonymous editors who choose to remain as such, is being proposed. so that issue to do with work in content to do with Perth and Western Australia can be discussed in real time. More news about this soon. JarrahTree 01:45, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Good idea, it'll hopeful bring some variety to locations again. Gnangarra 05:54, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Metronet

Photos of the Armadale line pre shut down of all level crossing are at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:2023_Armadale_Line_shutdown and some of the works already under way are going up as well. Lots of Wikidata points to be created and should we be doing articles about Metronet and the some of the specific works to bring them all together. Gnangarra 05:56, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Oh we have Metronet (Western Australia) Gnangarra 05:58, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
Yeah but there are also aspects of the larger project that may well require more content at some point in the future... JarrahTree 09:43, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the photos Gnangarra, in particular the level crossings, which I didn't get enough photos of myself. In case you don't know, there is a Wikipedia article for the Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal Project, which I have added one of your photos to.
The Metronet (Western Australia) article really does need some work. I aim to get to that soon. Steelkamp (talk) 05:58, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
thanks for the offer. I am also prepared to share with anyone who asks, material that clarifies the historical info re that line that is not otherwise easy to access. It doesnt matter if you are anonymous or real life available, it would be simply not on the net material that could be of use if utilised. JarrahTree 06:15, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

Karrakatta walk trails

I am going through the two Karrakatta cemetery wak trails and the people they highlight as points of interest. I created a stub on Richard Greaves (prospector) he found gold in Southern Cross that started WA's first gold rush. The Karrakatta list has Grace Vernon Drake-Brockman we have her as Grace Bussell, theres a John Hogan inspecter of police not sure he has enough to be notable though 25 years of court records and reporting does make a lot to sift through. Other people Benjamin Edward Strange a cartoonist has potential, Robert Creighton a wheelwright was the first person buried at Karrakatta is probably only worth mention in that article.

Perhaps we can meet at the cafe one day for a walk.Gnangarra 09:06, 22 January 2024 (UTC)

The second walk has a lot more Wikipedia unknows and the first including Percy Button Gnangarra 09:15, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
