Bardaskan County (Persian: شهرستان بردسکن)[lower-alpha 1] is in Razavi Khorasan province, Iran. Its capital is the city of Bardaskan.[3]

Demographics

Population

At the time of the 2006 National Census, the county's population was 68,392 in 18,229 households.[4] The following census in 2011 counted 72,626 people in 21,171 households.[5] At the 2016 census, the county's population was 75,631 in 23,732 households.[2]

Geography

Bardaskan is located in the Khorasan Razavi province at the northern edge of the Namak Desert (Great Salt Desert). Its area is 8,535 square kilometres (3,295 sq mi). The altitude of Bardaskan is 985 metres (3,232 ft). The weather in northern Bardaskan is cold while the weather in southern and central Bardaskan varies from semi-dry to hot and dry. Annual average rainfall is 150 millimetres (5.9 in). The summer high temperature is nearly 45 °C (113 °F), and winter low is −5 °C (23 °F). There are no perennial rivers, but there are several seasonal rivers.[citation needed]

Economy

The main jobs are farming and animal husbandry. Staple crops are wheat, barley, cotton and cumin seed, and pistachio, saffron, pomegranate, fig and grape products. Saffron, pistachios, and figs are the main commercial products from the county.[citation needed]

Education

Azad University is the only institute of higher education since 2000.[citation needed]
