Description

Members of the 86th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, march north, near Malcesine, on Lake Garda, without meeting any resistance. Rear guard action is all that has been encountered so far. 29 Apr 1945.

Deutsch: Soldaten des 86. Infanterieregiments, 10. Gebirgsdivision, marschieren, ohne auf Widerstand zu stoßen, in der Nähe von Malcesine [falsch; zwischen Bardolino und Garda] am Gardasee nach Norden. Die Nachhut ist das einzige, was man bis dahin angetroffen hat. 29. April 1945.

Contrary to the English description below, the location of the photo is not Malcesine, but the coastal road between Bardolino and Garda. The last soldier covers the prominent Landmark of Punta San Vigilio with his head.
