Summary
Description 20111110-OC-AMW-0033 - Flickr - USDAgov.jpg | A Roosevelt County New Mexico farmer and a County Agricultural Conservation Committee representative review the provisions of the Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA) farm program to determine how it can best be applied on that particular acreage in 1934. The farmer’s son looks on as the planting decisions are discussed. The AAA was U.S. federal law passed in 1933, which restricted agricultural production of seven “basic crops” of corn, wheat, cotton, rice, peanuts, tobacco, and milk. The law paid farmers not to plant part of their land and to kill off excess livestock in order to reduce surpluses. Photo courtesy of National Archives and Records Administration. |
