English: Boeing B-17E in flight. It is B-17E-BO 41-2393 was flown for the first time on 5 September 1941, with test pilot Eddie Allen at the controls. The B-17E would travel to many airfields in its testing, including Wright, Eglin, and Langley Fields. In January 1942, it first flew to Newfoundland en route to England, but the next day (9 January) it crashed into a snowbank, with pilot C. J. Cochrane at the controls. (U.S. Air Force photo)
